We are looking for a Head of Highways and Transportation who will be at the forefront of leading, developing and maintaining a clear strategic vision for the future of North Tyneside.   
 
As Head of Highways and Transportation, you will be an inspiring and motivational professional who has experience leading large scale, cross functional teams to deliver successfully deliver North Tyneside Council’s priorities. 
 
Our Head of Highways and Transportation will: 

  • Strategic vision: Provide visionary leadership and communicate clear strategic direction to colleagues across the Local Authority, Elected Members and the residents of North Tyneside.
  • Staff Leadership: Inspire and manage a diverse team of professionals, promoting a culture of excellence and accountability.
  • Strategic Planning: Lead the formulation and execution of strategic plans to achieve long-term objectives.
  • Operational Management: Ensure the efficient and effective delivery of services across all departments.
  • Policy Implementation: Oversee the development and implementation of policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with the council's goals.
  • Financial Stewardship: Have oversight of budget within your service. 
  • Representation: Act as the primary representative of the local authority at local, regional, national, and international levels.
  • Safeguarding: North Tyneside Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and adults at risk of harm. All staff and volunteers are expected to share this commitment and to familiarise themselves with all relevant policies, procedures, and guidance. What We're Looking For: 

  • Educational Background:  Have a degree or equivalent in a relevant subject / discipline e.g. Civil Engineering or be able to demonstrate substantial experience in delivering a Highways and Transport service 
  • Experience: Have a deep understanding of Highways / Network Management and Strategic Transport, and a thorough understanding of the local government organisation and regional and national governance arrangements around Highways, Transport and Sustainable Travel.
  • Strong track Record: Extensive experience working at a senior level in a Highways / Transportation environment. With the ability to demonstrates evidence of change management experience, delivering new working practices, cultural and structural change and an understanding of the modernising local government agenda and changes in public sector policy development.

  • Skills:?Exceptional communication, leadership, and strategic thinking abilities. 
  • Relationships:?The ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders, including the Elected Mayor, Members, senior management colleagues and other partners.
