Are you passionate about making a difference to our citizens and the district that they reside in? Then, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Team. We are looking for an Admission Appeals Support Officer as part of our School Admissions Team.
About the Role:
The purpose of this role is to support the Appeals Presenting Officer in discharging the LA’s functions with regards to Admission Appeals and provide support for the Admissions Team in processing applications for schools.
Key Responsibilities:
- To assist the Appeals Presenting Officer with the preparation of the case for effectively defending the LA’s position in admission appeals.
- To maintain accurate records and essential participation in the development of record systems within the section, including the utilisation of information technology where appropriate.
- To process in-year applications for Primary schools, liaising with parents in suggesting alternatives where applications are refused.
- To participate in task/team orientated work and attending team meetings to contribute to the smooth operation of the office.
What will be expected from me?
- You will deal with schools/academies, school office staff, clerks to the appeal panel and other professionals within the Children and Young People’s Directorate eg social workers.
- You will deal with parents/carers, the general public, and school admissions staff at other LAs.
- You will have excellent literacy and numeracy skills and strong attention to detail.
- You will be able to plan your own workload to meet statutory deadlines.
Essential requirements:
- 5 GCSEs or equivalent including English Language and Maths
- Good understanding of Education Service including practices and curriculum structures in both primary and secondary schools – e.g. class organisation, Key Stages and Foundation Stage.
- Practical knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel.
