Assistant Director Learning and Skills

Salary: £98,166

Hours: 37 hours per week

Workbase: Hull but currently expected to work flexibly including homeworking.

Contract: Permanent

Improving outcomes for children, young people and families in a modern, inclusive education landscape is at the heart of this vision.  To fulfil this ambition, we are now seeking an Assistant Director for Learning and Skills.

We are looking for a credible, compelling leader with experience at senior management level of successfully leading and managing an education related service area in a large successful organisation, a proven track record of developing and championing influential partnerships with a customer focussed service function.  In the formulation and delivery of key objectives and policies the ability to understand the “bigger picture in context” through thinking innovatively and conceptually is essential.

Significant experience of developing and maintaining positive and collaborative relationships with private and public sector organisations including academies, schools, parents/carers, professional partners, services and other stakeholders is critical.

The successful candidate will be part of a team of Assistant Directors in services for children to lead on ensuring that Hull’s children and young people can make the most of the opportunities ahead.  You will be responsible for providing strategic leadership, governance and direction to the partnerships and functions and which support and drive high quality learning and skills to children, young people and adults.  Working closely with partners, academies, schools and learning providers, you will focus on influencing safeguarding, inclusion, standards and achievement in all educational establishments and early years’ settings in order to improve outcomes for all children and young people in the City.

You will also need to lead, develop and manage through partnership working the delivery of the City of Hull ambition for education and skills, including music, and discharge the current LA statutory education responsibilities in respect of children in care, education standards, access and inclusion, sufficiency, school place planning, SEND services, education safeguarding, alternative and early years’ provision, along with meeting the demands and requirements of educational reforms.

You must be able to establish yourself work collaboratively with partners across the City, particularly MAT CEOs, Headteachers and Principals, Governors, Learning Providers and employers and have the necessary skills to navigate and influence the landscape for the benefit of all children and young people.

As a senior leader in Children, Young People and Families you will need to be committed to inclusion, multi-agency working, capable of leading major cross cutting change programmes and have experience of working with a range of agencies that play their part in supporting children, young people and families.
