About the Role

The Chief Executive’s Office sits at the heart of the council, working directly with the Chief Executive and Corporate Board Directors. Busy, fast-paced and demanding, the team coordinates, prepares and advises, helping navigate decision making and dealing with the unexpected. 

Business Managers provide support to one (or two) board-level Directors, working closely with them, their senior management teams, and their Executive Assistant. This includes coordinating work on behalf of your director, preparing reports and presentations, organising directorate-wide events and communications, forward planning, and support teams to navigate decision making. 

You will also lead on improvement work, managing projects, overseeing budgets and supporting financial strategy work, supporting contact with Members, and using sound judgement to deal with complex issues. 

Providing that vital link between the Corporate Board and others inside and outside of the organisation, you will help build and maintain important relationships with politicians, partners, and key stakeholders. 

We are looking for two Business Managers, both on 1-year fixed term contracts or secondment opportunities: 

• Business Manager for Your Council – working predominately with Director of Customers, Transformation and Resources, and Director of Finance (starting ASAP)
• Business Manager for People – working predominately with Director of Adults and Health (starting late November/early December 2021)

About You

Ideally you will have a good understanding of how councils operate, and experience of supporting senior Leaders in a demanding environment. 

You will be organised and efficient, have a keen eye for detail, able to work well under pressure, and work with colleagues to sort difficult problems quickly and effectively. 

Enthusiastic and motivated, you will be a great communicator and share our passion for getting things right first time.
