Our Legal and Democratic Service is responsible principally for ensuring the legality of the Council’s operations and decision-making, providing high quality support to elected members, the Council, the executive, committees, directorates and external clients, as well as supporting the democratic processes. Our Service is also responsible for supporting the promotion of high ethical standards within the organisation. Due to positive growth we are looking for Solictors to join our Commercial Contracts and Procurements team.

The role

As a Commercial Contracts and Procurement Solicitor, you will advise on procurements and drafting terms and conditions on a wide variety of commercial contracts. You will have some qualified experience and have the opportunity to be involved in high profile work. Support will be provided in any areas of the law where the candidate has not had the relevant experience.

You will be part of a supportive team of professionals with variable workloads, having the opportunity to learn and develop in other disciplines within our service.

You will have a fine eye for detail and thrive in a fast-paced environment with a dynamic and varied work load.

To be successful you must:

  • Hold a qualification as a Lawyer, Barrister or FILEX;
  • Demonstrate knowledge of law in one of the areas within the portfolios.  A more in depth knowledge of the specific portfolio would be required for the top level of the role;
  • Have a working knowledge of Court procedures and of attending Court if relevant to the portfolio assigned;
  • Have the ability to communicate effectively in writing to produce documents in a range of formats and style to suit a range of audiences and produce a representative record of meeting discussion and actions;
  • Have an ability to interact positively with colleagues, clients and elected Members.

Knowledge or experience of working in Local Authority is advantageous but not essential, we would welcome applications from the private sector. We are also happy to consider newly qualified Solicitors.
