Mental Health Outreach Worker

Do you hold a hold a Relevant Mental Health Professional Qualification ie RMN/DipCOT/DIPSW, or have significant experience of working within a mental health setting?

The City of York Council are looking to recruit a committed and enthusiastic individual to provide mental health support to rough sleepers and guidance to other professionals.

About the role;

Working closely with outreach teams, you will support a caseload of customers. This involves direct engagement with customers to identify their support needs and explore the barriers which have prevented them having effective engagement with mental health services.

You will aim to find ways of supporting customers to improve engagement with existing mental health services and encourage holistic multi-agency working to develop realistic support plans.

Key skills and experience required:

Customers may be vulnerable and under a lot of stress and therefore the successful applicants will have good interpersonal skills and an understanding of the issues facing homeless people and rough sleepers.

You will be capable of working on your own initiative under the guidance of a supervisor.

Experience of working with homeless people and understanding the complex issues surrounding the customer groups is essential.

You will need to be able to demonstrate that you are sympathetic yet firm and able to cope in situations which can be stressful as well as rewarding.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C2: Can express him/herself spontaneously at length with a natural conversational flow, avoiding or backtracking around any difficulty so smoothly that the person with whom they are conversing is hardly aware of it.
