We are seeking an experienced Pest Control Officer (Grade 7) or a Pest Control Technician (Grade 4) who is willing to learn the Officer role to enhance the quality and effectiveness of our Pest Control service.

• The role is part time for 18.5 hours per week, job share with an existing experienced Officer (2 full days one week and 3 the following week).

Pest control support Service is based at Wakefield One, Burton Street, Wakefield however the Post holder will work from the depot at Normanton or from home.

What is expected from me?

We are looking for a new team member to work in the Council’s Environmental Health Service delivering pest control services to the public and businesses of the Wakefield District.

You will carry out all aspects of pest control including servicing business contracts, treating a full range of insect and rodent pests for residents and businesses, bird and pest proofing. 

What will I be doing?

• Drive a van to a variety of jobs across the district, many of which are booked appointments.
• Visit businesses with contracts with the Council to help protect their premises from pests.
• Visit customers’ homes or businesses to undertake pest treatments and give advice.
• Work as part of a wider team which protects the health and wellbeing of the public. 

What Level of role do you fit?

Level 1 - Grade 4 Pest Control Technician:

• 5 GCSEs including Maths and English
• Valid Driving Licence (Class B) & able to drive a transit van supplied by the Council.

Level 2 - Grade 7 Pest Control Officer as above plus:

• RSPH Level 2 Award in Pest Management (or equivalent).
• IOSH Working Safely in Pest Control.
• Wildlife Aware

The ideal candidate will have some previous industry experience and training to be appointed at Level 2. 

However, consideration will be given to appointing a less qualified candidate at Level 1 and providing them with on-the-job training where they have demonstrated a positive can-do attitude and a willingness to learn on their application form.  

Anyone with no experience would commence employment on Grade 4 and may apply to progress to Grade 7 when they consider they have achieved the Level 2 essential criteria of the Job Specification.
