Do you have great administration skills and a keen eye for detail? Possess some commercial acumen and looking to develop your career? If so, you could be just the person we are looking for to join the Procurement and Supply Chain team at Sheffield City Council!

We are recruiting for two permanent and three 12-month temporary positions as Procurement & Supply Chain Specialists.  All positions are full-time (37 hours per week).

The roles are varied and interesting. You will gain a unique insight into how the council functions, working with a variety of different departments and services.

One of the permanent posts will primarily be focussed on contract management responsibilities, dedicated to managing the 16 school Private Finance Initiative (PFI) contracts within Sheffield.  Key activities for you will include data and performance analysis, drafting reports, attending, and minuting meetings, and issuing contract notices. Some prior experience of managing contracts and understanding the procurement and supply cycle will be beneficial.

The other posts are primarily focussed on procurement-related activity, including the development of procurement strategies, tender documentation, and commercial contracts. You will be empowered to act as the procurement lead for your projects, undertaking the key responsibilities of dissemination of bids, moderating evaluations and notifying suppliers. You will also gain exposure to high value and complex projects through supporting the Procurement & Supply Chain Managers.

Our team is one of the largest Local Government purchasing functions, helping to manage the authority’s annual budget. We provide strategic leadership, direction, innovation, and control across the full range of the Council's commissioning, procurement, contract, and supplier management activities to deliver value for money and efficiency improvements, whilst ensuring continuity and quality of supply for the Council and our citizens.

*Due to the nature of some roles, the successful candidate will need to ensure they can attend any in-person meetings in Central Sheffield when required. All meetings are during standard working hours.

The successful candidates may also be expected to be in the office 4-5 days a week initially as part of the induction process.  Some roles also require site visits and / or face-to-face meetings with clients, suppliers or partners; applicants interested in the contract management-focussed post in particular should be aware of this requirement.

If appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
