Our Greenwich Plan sets out our vision for the next 4 years focusing on the changes we collectively want to see in our borough and Council.  We want to become a more strategic, efficient and adaptive organisation, to deliver for our communities.  Our workforce is key to making this happen.

Royal Greenwich is a borough synonymous with first class modern services. Our vibrant, diverse communities span Greenwich town centre in the west, to Thamesmead in the east, from the Greenwich Peninsula in the north to Eltham in the south. Royal Greenwich has a reputation for combining ambition with delivery. We are on a journey towards a low carbon future and the sustainability agenda will influence all areas of the Council’s work.

This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping the Council’s ambitions for our future transport network, implement high-profile schemes and maintain a strong grip on the delivery of key projects.

To be successful in this post you will be as comfortable with strategy as you are with leading large operations. You will need to bring energy, tenacity, and strong communication skills. You will thrive on data and evaluation to evidence and inform delivery and service improvements.

Above all, you’ll be committed to delivering an efficient, well-connected network that our residents love – with a carbon footprint that we can be proud of, as well as delivering the councils Transport Strategy.

About the Role

This is a key role within the Transport directorate, responsible for the end-to-end delivery of complex and high-value transport and public realm projects. As Project Manager, you will lead the planning, design, and implementation of capital work projects that contribute to Royal Greenwich’s strategic objectives, including sustainability, connectivity, and public space enhancement.

You’ll manage projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality. The role involves close collaboration with internal services, consultants, contractors, and stakeholders, including elected members and community groups.

You will work closely with the Programme Delivery Manager and a team that includes two other Project Managers and a Project Support Officer. The role includes commissioning professional services, site supervision, risk management, business case development, performance reporting, and leading public and stakeholder engagement activities.

This is a great opportunity to help shape Greenwich’s transport infrastructure and public spaces while working in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

About You

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Project Manager with a track record of delivering complex transport, highways, or public realm projects in either a local authority or public sector setting, or in collaboration with them.

You will have a relevant technical qualification or equivalent professional experience, and strong knowledge of project management methodologies such as PRINCE2. You should be confident in managing budgets, project governance, procurement, risk, and stakeholder relationships.

Your communication skills will be key to engaging partners, communities, and internal stakeholders. You’ll be adept at navigating the demands of a political environment, delivering multiple projects simultaneously, and leading consultation processes that influence real change on the ground.

Above all, you will be committed to delivering sustainable, accessible, and high-quality infrastructure that reflects the priorities of our borough and makes a positive impact on our communities.
