We are currently looking to appoint an experienced Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) to manage and lead the AMHP Service in Doncaster.  This post offers an exciting opportunity to join a team of passionate and knowledgeable AMHP’s, to lead and manage the borough’s 24/7 AMHP service.  As the AMHP Team manager, you will be responsible for the delivery of an efficient and high quality AMHP service that meets the council’s legal requirements, with operational line management responsibility for the AMHP Hub and Out of Hours AMHP Service.  We are looking to attract an experienced AMHP with extensive knowledge of the Mental Health Act and significant management experience.  

Roles and Responsibilities of the AMHP Team Manager post -

  1. Day-to-day operational management of the AMHP Service, including the AMHP Team and Out of Hours AMHP Service.
  2. Delegated responsibility for the management of AMHP resources to meet service demand and ensure the council meets its statutory obligations under the Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007), namely provision of a 24/7 AMHP provision.    
  3. Oversee the approval, authorisation process, on-going training and re-approval of AMHPs in the borough, ensuring compliance with professional standards and AMHP regulations.
  4. Provide professional expertise, advice and guidance to AMHP’s, colleagues and partners in relation to the Mental Health Act.
  5. In conjunction with the Head of Service, work in partnership with a range of stakeholders to contribute to the development of policies and procedures relating to AMHP practice.
  6. Partake in the AMHP 24/7 rota (when service need is identified).
  7. Deputise for the Service Manager and Head of Service, as required, and to provide cover for colleagues.

Specialist Skills and Knowledge

Essential skills, knowledge and experience required to fulfil the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Qualified Social Worker (CQSW, DipSW or Social Work Degree) with current Social Work England registration with AMHP Qualification and post qualifying experience.
  • AMHP qualification and extensive post qualifying experience of working as an AMHP.
  • Extensive knowledge of Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007), Mental Capacity Act (2005), associated codes of practice, Care Act 2014 and other relevant legislation.
  • Operational management experience within a social work setting.
  • Experience of providing supervision, reflective practice and supporting the development of others.
  • Ability to analyse complex data and prepare reports for a range or audiences including performance management information.
