What’s the role all about?

 As a Senior Waste Strategy Officer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping North East Lincolnshire’s approach to sustainable waste management. This position is about more than compliance—it’s about driving innovation and embedding circular economy principles into every aspect of our operations. You’ll work closely with the Service Manager for Environmental Strategy and Sustainability to deliver a forward-thinking Waste Strategy that meets legislative requirements while championing environmental responsibility. From developing strategic plans to overseeing complex contracts, your work will directly influence how we protect our environment for future generations.

What will your day look like?

In this role, you’ll lead on initiatives that transform waste strategy. You’ll develop and promote a circular economy across the council, ensuring our strategies anticipate future legislation and industry trends. Your expertise will guide internal teams and partners through complex waste challenges. Your analytical skills will help us track performance and identify areas for improvement. Representing the authority at regional and national forums, you’ll share best practices and influence policy decisions. Additionally, you’ll oversee a small team and support with the management and procurement of waste disposal contracts, ensuring best value and compliance. Every project you manage will contribute to our green agenda and help us achieve ambitious environmental targets.

Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for someone with a background in waste strategy or a strong foundation in environmental science. You’ll bring proven experience in delivering strategic waste solutions, managing stakeholder relationships, and driving service improvements. Your knowledge of waste law, circular economy principles, and the green agenda will be essential, as will your ability to interpret legislation and translate it into practical policies. Strong communication skills are key—you’ll need to convey complex information clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences.
