We are seeking a Grounds maintenance Operative to enhance the quality and effectiveness of our Council’s Bereavement Services.
What will be expected from me?
To work as part of a team in the Council’s Bereavement Service with particular duties relating to the Cemeteries Team; and maintaining the grounds, preparing graves whilst working in a manner which maintains an atmosphere of reverence and respect.
What I might be doing?
- A full range of grounds maintenance work including grass cutting, re-instatement works to worn or damaged areas of grass, shrub bed maintenance, planting, hedge cutting, weed spraying, sweeping of paths, litter picking, emptying of litter bins and removal of old floral tributes etc. Carry out minor repairs to the cemetery infrastructure i.e. paths, walls etc. Operate pedestrian mowers, strimmer’s, hand-held hedge cutters, backpack blowers and similar items including hand tools. Operate a range of powered grounds maintenance machinery and plant including backpack blowers, pedestrian operated mowers, strimmer’s, handheld hedge cutters and similar items
- Drive the council’s fleet vehicle in accordance with road traffic regulations and codes and follow the Council’s policies and procedures in relation to the use of Council vehicles.
- Assist Burial teams with burials when required.
- The post holder will be required to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
Essential requirements:
- Driving licence categories C1+E
- Horticulture qualifications or experience
- NPORS/LANTRA qualification plant machinery or equivalent Mechanical Excavator accreditation (Desirable)
- Appropriate training / qualifications in managing safety (Desirable)
- Appropriate qualification in grave digging (Desirable)
