What’s the role all about?
North East Lincolnshire’s Education Welfare Service is seeking an enthusiastic, dynamic and committed Education Welfare Officer to work with schools and families to improve school attendance and support positive educational outcomes for children and young people.
The successful candidate will undertake the statutory and legal functions of the Local Authority in relation to school attendance and Children Missing from Education, working to support educational settings and improve outcomes for all children and young people. Particular focus will be placed on severe and persistent absence, vulnerable groups including Children in Care, children with a Social Worker, children with SEND, and electively home educated pupils, while promoting inclusive practice and school attendance regulations.
What will your day look like?
You'll work closely with schools across North East Lincolnshire to improve attendance and engagement, supporting children, young people and their families to identify and overcome barriers to learning. Working collaboratively with a range of multi-agency partners, you'll help drive positive outcomes for some of the borough's most vulnerable children and young people. You'll attend and chair attendance-related meetings with families and education professionals, deliver training and workshops to schools and partners, and provide targeted support for vulnerable groups, including Children in Care, children with a Social Worker and those with SEND. Alongside this, you'll undertake statutory attendance duties, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and guidance while promoting inclusive practice and helping every child access their educational entitlement.
Who are we looking for?
We're looking for an experienced and enthusiastic professional who has worked with families and/or within a school setting, and who is passionate about improving attendance and educational outcomes for children and young people. You'll be an excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills, able to build positive and productive relationships with schools, families, young people and partner agencies. Confident in leading discussions, chairing meetings and delivering training, you'll bring a collaborative, proactive and solution-focused approach to your work. Most importantly, you'll be committed to making a difference, using your initiative and innovative thinking to help overcome barriers to learning and support children and young people to reach their full potential.
