Serving as Peel Region’s Medical Officer of Health (MOH) is an opportunity to improve lives, strengthen communities, and advance public health practice across Ontario. As MOH, you will build on Peel Public Health’s track record in pioneering ideas that meet community needs. The MOH will guide and inspire collaborative, interdisciplinary teams doing groundbreaking work in areas such as climate change adaptation, opioid risk mitigation, place-based immunization services, enhancing digital capacity and the use of Artificial Intelligence. As a senior leader within our Health Services team, you will join in advancing health equity and asserting upstream perspectives into health system advocacy and redesign, community safety and wellbeing innovations and Ontario Health Teams progress. As MOH, you lead clinical activities related to prevention and control of communicable disease and health promotion You belong to a strong, integrated Health Leadership Team (including Paramedics, Seniors Services and Health Strategic Planning and Partnerships) that is leading our journey to health equity by building on Peel Region’s strong relationships and experience with our community. To meet its unique collaborative needs, Peel Region has developed an organizational structure which includes a reporting relationship for the MOH with the Commissioner Health Services on administrative matters.
The ideal candidate will have a Medical Degree with a current license to practice medicine in the province of Ontario from the College of Physicians and Surgeons with a FRCP designation. A Master’s degree in Health Sciences or Public Health, preferably with specialty qualifications in Public Health and Preventive Medicine. Along with the respective education, you will bring five years’ experience in a senior position responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of Public Health programs, and in health promotion and disease prevention. You have significant leadership and management experience in health-related programs and service delivery.
