Could you play a vital role in protecting and promoting the wellbeing of an entire workforce?

Are you passionate about improving systems, processes and people’s health, why not bring that drive to a team that truly values it?

Join us in supporting healthier, safer workplaces across North East Lincolnshire!

North East Lincolnshire Council is seeking an organised, proactive and committed Occupational Health Technician to join our growing Occupational Health, Safety & Wellbeing Service. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in helping us protect, promote and sustain the health, safety and wellbeing of our workforce.

Working as part of a supportive, multidisciplinary team including the Occupational Health Nurse, Occupational Health Doctor and wider Health, Safety and Wellbeing colleagues, you will help deliver a high-quality, responsive Occupational Health service that supports our statutory obligations and our commitment to valuing and investing in our people.

What will your day look like?

As an Occupational Health Technician, you will:

  • Lead and coordinate the planning, scheduling and delivery of the Council’s statutory health surveillance programme, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, professional standards and service protocols.
  • Conduct a range of health surveillance assessments, in line with training, competence and service procedures, including audiometry, spirometry/lung function testing, skin checks, HAVS Tier 1–2 assessments, and new starter health screening.
  • Maintain accurate, secure and confidential clinical and organisational records in line with legislation, professional codes of practice, data protection requirements and Council policies.
  • Produce clear, reliable reports and service data to support compliance monitoring, trend analysis and continuous service improvement.
  • Support health promotion activities, wellbeing initiatives and proactive workplace campaigns across the organisation.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of internal systems, processes and the Occupational Health intranet pages.
  • Work collaboratively with managers, employees, Recruitment and colleagues across the organisation to support effective service delivery.

This is a busy and varied role that requires excellent organisational skills, strong attention to detail, the ability to work independently, and the confidence to engage professionally with employees and managers at all levels of the organisation.

Who are we looking for?

You will be able to demonstrate experience working within an Occupational Health or healthcare environment in a similar technical or support role, along with a solid understanding of occupational health practice, informed consent, medical confidentiality, data protection and relevant health and safety legislation. You will bring strong technical and administrative skills, including confident use of Microsoft Office and health record management systems such as SystmOne, Cohort or similar. Excellent communication skills are essential, as is the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism and tact. You will also have strong planning, time‑management and organisational abilities, enabling you to work independently and manage competing priorities effectively. A proactive, problem‑solving approach is key, with the confidence to identify opportunities to enhance systems, processes and service delivery. You will hold a Level 3 Occupational Health Technician qualification (or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience gained within an occupational health or clinical setting), and it would be advantageous—though not essential—if you also hold an NVQ Level 2 in Customer Service or equivalent.

Why join us?

We offer:

  • A friendly, supportive and forward-thinking Occupational Health, Safety & Wellbeing team.
  • Opportunities to contribute meaningfully to service development and innovation within a growing Occupational Health service.
  • Agile working arrangements and flexibility to support a healthy work–life balance.
  • A strong commitment to professional development, learning and continuous improvement.
  • Generous employee benefits, including local government pension scheme membership, annual leave entitlement and access to a range of staff wellbeing support services.

Equality and safer recruitment

North East Lincolnshire Council is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and welcomes applications from all sections of the community. Appointment will be subject to appropriate preemployment checks in line with Council policy.
