Teaching Pay Range: Outdoor Instructor Role:
Teacher of Outdoor Education: M1 - M6 (Main Scale)
Outdoor Education Instructor: Grade 7 (£30,024 - £33,699 pro rata) term time plus 2 weeks

The Governing Body of this popular primary school seeks to appoint excellent, enthusiastic, creative and motivated Outdoor Instructors to support the development of excellent outdoor teaching & learning available at our school.
 
Our school is passionate about outdoor learning as children take part in a range of adventurous activities including canoeing, Forest School, climbing & international ski trips to France.
 
We are looking for experienced Outdoor Instructors / Tutors, who have a passion for working with children in a range of outdoor environments.
 
All of our Outdoor Instructors will be well supported to develop into highly skilled practitioners and will receive a significant training package. Therefore, we are seeking to appoint at least one committed and passionate Outdoor Instructor / Teacher to lead aspects of our Outdoor Education Curriculum within Wheatley Hill Primary School under the guidance of our Leadership Team.
 
The purpose of the Outdoor Instructor role is to deliver accredited and non-accredited learning activities to a range of learners within the specified specialist area of Outdoor Adventure. The working environment is changeable to meet the demands of the school with the expectation of a flexible working routine and location. The post holder will maintain professional compliance through relevant registration with the specific occupational sector (National Governing Bodies i.e. BMC, BCU), and evidence membership to ensure current best practice is achieved. The position will involve both direct and non-direct contact with learners, with elements of planning, preparation and assessment required. Due to the nature of the school structure, the post holder will be required to work across other areas of the operation as required.
 
You will be contributing to and participating in the team working ethos of the provision whilst maintaining its core values by:
• Planning and delivering an Outdoor Education teaching programme for all pupils within the school, incorporating the National Curriculum, providing clear structures for learning activities and session sequences which both motivate and challenge pupils in the outdoor environment.
• Setting clear outdoor based Learning Objectives, that cater for pupil’s academic, emotional and SEND needs whilst working closely with other professionals.
• Making effective use of a variety of SEND systems to support pupils’ to access learning opportunities in the outdoor environment.
• Contributing to the whole school’s planning activities and operating at all times within the stated policies and practices.
 
There will be the opportunity to work with the Specialist SEND provision in school as well as to support children with SEND to access Outdoor Learning opportunities. The candidate must be willing to work hard to develop their understanding of high quality teaching & learning strategies as well as knowledge of the current national frameworks and developments in education. It is essential that the successful candidate has a clear desire to work with children and strive for excellence.
 
 The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential for the post.

Term time only plus two additional weeks’ pay is calculated on the basis of the following:
• Number of ‘teaching’ weeks – 38 weeks; plus
• Public (bank) holidays – 1.6 weeks (8 days); plus
• Two additional weeks, inclusive of CPD – 2 weeks; plus
• Individual leave entitlement - 5.4 weeks (27 days) or 6.4 weeks (32 days)
Individual leave entitlement is calculated on the length of continuous service. Employees with less than 5 years’ service will receive 27 days annual leave. Employees with more than 5 years’ service will receive 32 days annual leave. For example:
 
Calculation for employees with less than 5 years’ service:
40 weeks (term time plus 2) + 27 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 47 weeks’ pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments
 
Calculation for employees with more than 5 years’ service:
40 weeks (term time plus 2) + 32 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 48 weeks’ pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments
