We are looking for a committed and innovative Practice Manager to join our North Yorkshire Youth Justice Service, part of the wider Early Help Service. This is an exciting opportunity to take a key leadership role in a busy locality team that works with children and young people up to age 19 (or 25 with SEND) and their families.

About the role

Our work is grounded in our Strength in Relationships practice model, helping children, young people, and families create sustainable plans that make a real difference. As a Practice Manager, you will support the delivery of high‑quality Youth Justice services that reduce youth crime, protect the public, safeguard vulnerable young people, and provide meaningful reparation to victims and communities.

A key part of this role is leading on service development and contributing to continuous improvement across the Youth Justice Service. The Practice Manager will play an active role in shaping practice, strengthening our evidence‑informed approaches, and supporting the implementation of new initiatives aligned with national and local priorities. You will work closely with colleagues across Early Help and wider partners to identify emerging needs, develop effective responses, and ensure our interventions remain innovative, reflective, and responsive to the children, young people, families, and communities we serve.

About the Team  

The North Yorkshire Youth Justice team  https://www.northyorks.gov.uk/children-and-families/north-yorkshire-youth-justice-service is an established and successful countywide multi-agency partnership, responsible for preventing youth crime and reducing re-offending.

The key objectives of the team are to prevent and reduce youth crime, protect the public from serious harm, safeguard the welfare of children and young people, and to facilitate reparation to victims and communities. The team is committed to providing high quality services to children and young people in the criminal justice system, their parents, and to the victims of crime. 

About You

We’re looking for someone who is flexible, creative and passionate about positive outcomes for young people and families. You will bring:

Essential qualifications & experience

  • A degree in a relevant field or professional qualification such as Social Work (e.g., DipSW, CQSW), Probation Studies, Youth & Community Work.
  • Significant post‑qualifying experience working with troubled young people, ideally in a multi-agency or criminal justice context.
  • Strong knowledge of legislation, national developments and best practice in youth justice and safeguarding.
  • Experience of managing risk, complex casework, and providing professional leadership

The successful candidate will be expected to be part of an out of hours duty rota during evenings and weekends.
