Job description

A rewarding opportunity to lead, inspire and develop the SENDIASS service in York. You will be inheriting a busy service with a reputation for prompt responses, solution-focused working practices, excellent working relationships with schools, settings, the Local Authority and other bodies and passionate about ensuring that the special educational needs of children and young people are met.

You will be responsible for the strategic development and day-to-day management of the Special Educational Needs & Disabilities Information Advice & Support Service (SENDIASS). The SENDIASS team provide impartial information, advice and advocacy for children, young people and parents/carers on legislation, policy and practice in relation to SEND.

The work is challenging and stimulating and will suit a candidate who has:
• Knowledge of relevant SEND legislation and guidance.
• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
• A passion for achieving positive outcomes for children and young people.
• Leadership and management skills.
• Knowledge and/or experience of bid writing and managing a budget.
• The ability to work independently and travel to a number of settings and locations each day as required.

This vacancy is available as a job sharing position.

As this role is public facing, applicants will need to demonstrate, at interview, their competency to converse and provide advice and guidance to members of the public, in spoken English to CEFR level C2: Can express themselves spontaneously at length with a natural conversational flow, avoiding or backtracking around any difficulty so smoothly that the person with whom they are conversing is hardly aware of it.
