North Yorkshire Council is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Senior Affordable Housing Officer to join our Housing Partnerships and Delivery Service. This is a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of high-quality, affordable housing across our diverse communities.

You will be based at one of our main office locations- depending on which is most convenient for you, with the expectation to attend weekly in person meetings in Northallerton or Selby. The role is hybrid working allowing you to work from home up to 3 days per week.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Providing specialist advice on planning application, pre-apps, section 106 agreements and strategic sites.
  • Working closely with planning colleagues, developers, Registered Providers, Homes England and other partners to unlock and accelerate affordable housing delivery
  • Collaborating with Planning Policy teams on local plans and housing evidence bases.
  • Leading the design and coordination of the Council’s new Registered Developer Forums
  • Working with colleagues to maintain robust evidence bases, including housing needs assessments and other data.
  • Supporting communication and engagement with stakeholders, ensuring feedback informs continuous improvement.

·       Providing leadership to other members of the Housing Strategy, Partnerships and Enabling team, especially the Affordable Housing Advisor, who you will line manage.

 What We’re Looking For:

You’ll bring substantial knowledge and experience of the housing sector, particularly affordable housing policy.  We want someone who:

  • Shares our values and understands why affordable housing is important
  • Can influence, negotiate and build strong relationships
  • Drive process improvement and deliver results to deadlines
  • Analyse complex documents and data
  • Takes responsibility and produces a range of solutions to problems
  • Can travel across North Yorkshire.
  • Has a degree or equivalent qualification and evidence of continued professional development.

Excellent communication skills are a must, as you will be working with a wide range of partners and project teams, which will require collaborative working.
