This is an exciting time to join Calderdale’s Highways Maintenance service. We’re growing our teams, spending more and constantly seeking innovation to meet the challenge of maintaining our highway network.

To do this we’re looking for a talented and experienced highways maintenance practitioner to lead our operational maintenance service. In the role you will be responsible for approximately 20 members of staff and an annual budget of £2m

The Highway Revenue Maintenance Team is integral to preserving the integrity and functionality of our highway infrastructure, crucial for ensuring public safety and facilitating economic growth. Our focus is on critical day to day maintenance activities, including potholing and minor patching, masonry repairs, walling works, surface water drainage infrastructure cleansing, investigation and repair and 24/7 emergency standby provision to provide safe roads and footways.

These activities are pivotal in preventing further deterioration, enhancing road safety, and improving driving conditions for the community.

We are in search of an individual to fill our Senior Highway Engineer (operations) role who has specialised expertise in highway revenue maintenance, particularly in the areas of running a in house operational services and minor works contractors.

This role will involve planning, design, and execution of revenue maintenance.

The successful candidate will play a key role in manging budgets for these areas of work, determining appropriate approaches to how work is carried out, develop maintenance strategies to improve services delivery, and ensuring that all works are carried out efficiently, within set timescales, and in compliance with relevant standards and regulations.

This position requires collaboration with other departments, contractors, and the public to ensure that maintenance activities are coordinated effectively and minimise disruption to road users.

Health and safety is key to this role. You will have an in-depth knowledge and demonstratable experience of safe working practices and regulations including the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations, COSHH, LOLER, vibration at work and manual handling regulations. You will be familiar with the investigation and reporting of construction and operational based incidents and accidents.
