York High School is seeking a resourceful, innovative and passionate Teaching Assistant to work with individuals and small groups of students with Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to improve accessibility to mainstream curriculum and inclusion in school.

An exciting part of this role will be leading our nurture provision, Acorns. Primarily aimed at Key Stage 3 students, Acorns offers high quality interventions in a nurturing environment to students with a range of needs. This includes those who require enhanced support to: transition to secondary education, make good progress with their learning outcomes (such as reading or numeracy skills), develop their social and emotional skills or improve their wellbeing.

The successful candidate will plan, manage, deliver and audit a range of interventions using assess, plan, do, review cycles.  These interventions may target learning or emotional needs and may be delivered individually or to a group of students. There may also be some class support involved. You will also be the key worker for a caseload of students, attending meetings and liaising with parents and staff as necessary. The successful candidate will have high expectations of what students can achieve, and will be naturally empathetic.

You will have experience of successfully delivering interventions to students individually or in small groups, and experience of supporting students with SEND in education.  You will be able to describe and measure the impact of these interventions on young people you have worked with. You will possess GCSE English and maths at Grade 4/C or above, or equivalent, and also hold a Teaching Assistant qualification at Level 2 or above. You will be able to quickly build effective relationships with students, staff, parents and carers in order to support students to become the best that they can be.

York High is a mixed 11–16 school serving a genuinely comprehensive intake. The last 4 years have seen rapid and sustained change with the school earning a ‘good’ judgement from Ofsted in September 2022. You would be joining a school with a commitment to excellent pastoral care and to maximising the potential of all of our students. In addition, the Trust offers a range of staff benefits, including enrolment in the excellent Local Government Pension Scheme, 24/7 access to an employee assistance programme and a range of family friendly policies.

South Bank Multi Academy Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All appointments are made in accordance with safer recruitment practices and the statutory guidance in Keeping Children Safe in Education. Online checks will be carried out on all shortlisted candidates, and all appointments are subject to an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and checks regarding suitability to work with children.

Advertisements will therefore close at midnight either on the advertised closing date, or at the point the decision has been taken to close the advertisement early.
